- Graduated from the Faculty of Engineering – Cairo University in 1982
- Worked in the private sector as a civil engineer until he joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1988.
- Headed the first non-governmental organization to monitor the first parliamentary elections in the unified state in 1993 (the Yemeni Committee for Free and Fair Elections).
- Elected as a member of the Executive Office of the Yemeni Organization for the Defense of Rights and Freedoms, headquartered in Aden.
- Participated in preparing a field report on preparations for the parliamentary elections in Jordan, September 1993.
- Appointed as the first head of the diplomatic mission of Yemen in South Africa in 1996.
