Foreign Ministry welcomes implementation of designating Houthi Militias as terrorist organization

ADEN – SABA
Yemen welcomes the U.S. State Department’s announcement designating the Houthi terrorist militia as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) under Executive Order 14175, issued by President Donald Trump.

This decision marks a crucial step in confronting the threats posed by these Iran-backed terrorist militias, whose attacks have targeted civilians and infrastructure in Yemen and neighboring countries. Their continued assaults on commercial ships in the Red Sea also endanger international trade routes and maritime security.

The Yemeni government fully supports this designation, viewing it as an effective tool to curb the Houthis’ financial and material support. It also renews its call for the international community to take similar measures to cut off funding and arms supplies to the group, reinforcing efforts to restore stability and establish peace in Yemen.

This decision strengthens Yemen’s partnership with the United States and its allies in the fight against terrorism. The government hopes it will help deter activities that threaten its citizens, the region, and global maritime trade.

The Yemeni government expresses its gratitude to the United States for its steadfast support of the Presidential Leadership Council and the Yemeni people in their pursuit of peace. It also reaffirms its commitment to cooperating with international partners to implement this designation in a way that serves the interests of the Yemeni people and enhances regional security and stability.
