President al-Alimi receives Secretary General of the GCC

His Excellency President Dr. Rashad al-Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) and Member of the PLC Othman Mujalli received on Thursday, in New York, the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jassim al-Budaiwi.

During the meeting, President al-Alimi briefed al-Budaiwi on the Yemeni developments and the obstacles created by the Houthi terrorist militias to obstruct the mediation efforts led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Sultanate of Oman to launch an inclusive political process guided by the UN.

His Excellency also touched on the economic and financing challenges facing the government due to the Houthi militias’ war and terrorist attacks on oil facilities and international shipping lines.

He also cited the needed regional and international pressures to bring the Yemeni people’ humanitarian suffering to its end.

The Chairman of the PLC voiced his own and on his behalf and the members of the PLC and the government’s great thanks and appreciation for the position of the GCC’s member States alongside the Yemeni people and its legitimate leadership at various stages, including its active role in facing the dangers threatening Yemen, its identity, its national economy and contributing to the ongoing peace efforts in accordance with its declared references, especially Resolution 2216.

The Secretary General of the GCC affirmed the firm stance of the GCC in support of the Yemeni people and their aspirations to restore stability and peace in Yemen.

Al-Budaiwi spoke about the ongoing preparations for holding an international conference on food security in Yemen and the list of development projects funded by the GCC’s member states in the upcoming period.
