NEW YORK-SABA
His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) and Member of the PLC Othman Mujalli met on Thursday, in New York, with the Executive Director of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Catherine Russell.
The meeting intended to discuss UNICEF’s interventions in the humanitarian fields, especially in the health and education sectors.
The conversations also touched on the UNICEF’s plans to strengthen its interventions in the field of child protection, the provision of safe water, school feeding, quality education and skills building and all forms of life-saving assistance
The President praised the ongoing partnership between the Yemeni government and UNICEF that has proved very helpful in improving basic services, combating malnutrition, immunization against deadly diseases, environmental sanitation and psychosocial support.
The Chairman of the PLC cited the violations of the Houthi terrorist militia against childhood, including the continued recruitment of children, the opening of extremist mobilization centers, as well as changing school curricula and including racist and terrorist ideas that glorify violence and hatred.
In this context, President al-Alimi noted that the Houthi terrorist militias have continued to ban the arrival of vaccines, campaigning against vaccinating children in the militias-controlled areas, which led to the return of diseases that Yemen had gotten rid of many years ago.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Dr. Shaya al-Zindani was in attendance.
