Member of the Presidential Leadership Council Maj. General Aidarous Azubaidi received today, Wednesday, the Ambassador of the United Kingdom (UK) to the Republic of Yemen Richard Oppenheim.
The session intended to discuss a range of topics including political and military developments, humanitarian situations, the ongoing good offices of the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary General to extend the truce and the regional and international efforts to establish peace amid Houthi militias’ constant escalation, rejection to the peace proposals.
The Member of the Presidential Council’s talks with the British Ambassador touched upon the deteriorated economic situation in our country due to Houthi militias’ attacks on the oil facilities which constitute the backbone of the national economy.
General Azubaidi called on the regional and international communities to immediately intervene to bail out Yemen’s collapsed economy. He noted that genuine peace starts with rescuing the peoples’ life, protect the economic facilities from the Houthis’ terrorist attacks that put the lives of millions at stake.
The Member of the Presidential Council asked Britain to play greater role in mobilizing the economic support for our country and explore all means to protect the economic facilities to enable the Presidential Council and government to resume oil production and export.
He also reiterated the call for the British government and the ten countries to open the offices of their embassies in the temporary capital Aden.
The British Ambassador reaffirmed his government’s support for the Presidential Leadership Council, international efforts aiming to achieve security, stability, reach an inclusive political process to end the conflict, establish fair and sustainable peace in the region.
He also confirmed the British government’s support for all efforts to revitalize the economy, support the Yemeni government to do its jobs, securing basic services.
