Statement by the Government of Yemen on the Houthi militias attack on Al-Dhabab – Taiz
29 August 2022
On Sunday evening, 28 August 2022, the Houthi militias launched a fierce attack on Al-Dhabab district, west of the city of Taiz, that continued into the early hours of Monday, 29 August 2022. The attack came in an attempt to seize control of Al-Dhabab area and cut the only lifeline route connecting the City of Taiz to Aden governorate, and resulted in the killing of 10 members of the Yemeni Armed Forces and the injury of 7 others. This comes at a time when the efforts of the international community and the United Nations are focused on consolidating and expanding the humanitarian truce and building on it to resume the political efforts and achieve peace in Yemen.
While viewing this attack as a flagrant challenge to all the efforts and initiatives aimed at ending the war and achieving peace, and as an attempt to thwart the efforts to extend and expand the truce, and to tighten the siege on the already besieged city of Taiz, regarding which the Houthis have refused to fulfill their relevant obligations and open the main roads, the Government of Yemen will not allow the continuation of the Houthi militias violations and exploitation of the truce, and of the Government’s implementation of the truce provisions, to achieve the militias’ military and political goals at the expense of Yemenis and their aspirations for peace and stability. The Government of Yemen holds the Houthi militias responsible for the consequences of these criminal acts.
