TAIZ – SABA
The National Commission for Enquiry into Alleged Human Rights Abuses has documented 1333 casualties among female civilians in Yemen due to indiscriminate heavy shelling from 2015 to the end of 2020.
Member of the commission Eshraq Almaqtari said in a press conference today that the commission “has recorded and verified the death of 528 women and injury of 805 others” most of them young girls in the Yemeni conflict.
Almaqtari said Taiz city tops the list of places where the abuses occurred, followed by Hodeidah, Aljawf and Dhale’a.
She said the Iran-backed Houthi militia topped the list of the abusers.
While Almaqtari focused on the victims of indiscriminate shelling, she said women were otherwise abused by the Houthi militia including by displacement, booby traps, landmines, imprisonment, disappearance, torture, to name just a few.
