Al-Hadrami holds Houthi militia accountable for humanitarian crisis Yemen struggling with

Foreign Minister Mohammed al-Hadrami said” the humanitarian crisis in Yemen, the world’s worst, is a result of the theocratic Houthi militia’s coup, the militia is seeking for power, disregarding Yemenis’ suffering”.

Contributing to discussions themed” Humanitarian Crisis in Yemen: avert famine outbreak” organized by Sweden and the EU on the sideline of the 75th session of the UN General Assembly, al-Hadrami added” Houthi militia has further increased obstructions to humanitarian response efforts over 2019-2020 more than ever before, looting humanitarian aids to fund its war, exacerbating the an acute food insecurity crisis”.

The FM underscored the importance of getting development programs and urgent relief efforts integrated together to address the grass roots of the food insecurity crisis, highlighting the need for decentralizing humanitarian actions, propping up the Central Bank of Yemen (CBY) urgently by transferring humanitarian assistance funds the CBY’s channels to provide the bank’s treasury with hard currency.

Al-Hadrami stated that though humanitarian response effective endeavor may be helpful to avert famine risk, the comprehensive political solution based on the three terms of reference is the only single way to eliminate the humanitarian crisis in Yemen.
