FM, Ambassadors of the P-5 member of Security Council discuss developments in Yemen

Foreign Minister Mohammed al-Hadrami held a session Sunday with the Ambassadors of the five Permanent member states of the UN Security Council to our country.

The meeting aimed to discuss the latest developments about the situations in Yemen including the efforts to counter coronavirus, the UN envoy’s good offices to make peace, violations by Houthis and the implications of the recent events in the wake of what termed by the South Transitional Council (STC) as ” South Self-Rule”.

The Foreign Minister stated that the government is very keen to cooperate with the efforts have been made by the Special envoy of the UN Secretary General Martin Griffiths and the government welcomed the Security Council’s statement about Yemen and the UN Chief’s call to unite efforts to counter Coronavirus and establish comprehensive cease-fire.

He stated that priority now must be given to establish the cease-fire and unite efforts to counter coronavirus pandemic which started to spread in our country.

Concerning to the declaration of the STC of what it called as” South Self-Rule” al-Hadrami stated that this reckless move is considered to be clear rejection to Riyadh Agreement and a continuation of the armed insurgency started in last August by the STC.

” This will undermine the implementation of Riyadh Agreement and the UN-led peace process”, said al-Hadrami.
The Foreign Minister voiced appreciation for the Saudi Arabia Leadership’s role in containing the recent events in Socotra island.

Regarding Hodeidah agreement al-Hadrami blamed Houthi militia for hindering the implementation of the agreement. He demanded relocating the headquarter of the UN’s mission into an impartial area.

He stated that the government has continued to suspend its engagement in the actions of the Coordination Redeployment Committee in the wake of the death of the liaison officer colonel al-Salahi who came under attack by Houthi militiamen while he was on duty.

The Ambassadors confirmed their support for the UN envoy’s efforts and his initiative and the announcement of the Saudi-led Coalition for restoring legitimacy for extending cease-fire.

The Ambassadors called for reacting constructively to the UN’s efforts to reach comprehensive sustainable peace in Yemen.
