Yemen welcomed the decision of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency yesterday, regarding the implementation of the Safeguards Agreement in Iran.
In his speech at the meeting, Yemen’s permanent representative to the agency, Ambassador Haitham Shuja Al-Din, praised the strong support for the agency’s continued efforts to affirm the peaceful nature of the Iranian nuclear program, and expressed deep concern that the issues of safeguards related to the three undeclared sites in Iran were still outstanding due to the insufficient substantive cooperation on the part of Iran and the latter’s call for urgent action to fulfill its legal obligations and to accept without delay the offer made by the Director General for the clarification and settlement of all outstanding safeguards issues.
He also called on Iran to stop its destabilizing behavior for security and stability in Yemen and the region, by continuing its support for the Houthi militia and providing it with weapons to target Yemenis and neighboring countries.
The meeting discussed topics related to nuclear security, technical cooperation, the impact of the situation in Ukraine on nuclear security, security and safeguards, as well as the implementation of IAEA safeguards in the Middle East, and the application of safeguards in Korea and Syria, in addition to Israel’s nuclear capabilities.
