The Head of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) Dr. Rashad al-Alimi received a telephone call this evening from the US Secretary of State Antony Binken.
The telephone conversation covered a range of topical issues including Yemeni-American bilateral ties and cooperation and the US administration’s support for Yemen and its newly appointed leadership to restore the state and implement the needed reforms programs and keep on cooperation about fighting terrorism.
Al-Alimi asked Blinken to convey his greetings to his American counterpart Joe Biden, highly appreciating the USA’s support for the Yemeni government since 2014 and its support of the transfer of power and the PLC, confirming the government’s commitment to observe the UN- backed humanitarian truce despite the constant violations by Houthi militias.
The head of the PLC voiced his hope for the International Community to mount pressure upon Houthi militia to fulfill its obligations under the truce and open the routes to the city of Taiz as it stipulated in the UN humanitarian truce, lift the choking besiege the militia has imposed upon the city for seven years.
Al-ALimi called on the international financial institutions to further increase the economic support for Yemen because of the tough economic hardships it has been struggling with.
For his part Mr. Blinken congratulated the head and members of the PLC on taking the office, wishing them all the best in their missions, affirming the USA’s support for the PLC, its full support for the economic reforms the Yemeni government has adopted.
The US Secretary of State reiterated the US administration support for the UN sponsored humanitarian truce, emphasizing the importance of opening the roads to Taiz to alleviate the population’s suffering.
