Prime Minister Dr. Maeen Abdulmalik received Swedish Foreign Minister Ann Linde and exchanged views on the current developments at the national and international levels, the Swedish support for the Yemeni government and people in various aspects, and Sweden’s keenness, alongside other Yemen friends, to advance peace efforts, which constantly face intransigence and rejection from the Houthi militia’s side.
The meeting touched on the continuous Houthi military escalation and targeting of vital interests and energy sources in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the serious threat that this poses to the international economy, and its rejection of all calls for peace and dialogue, the last of which was the call by the Gulf Cooperation Council.
They also discussed the militia’s failing of the Stockholm Agreement, the role required from the international community to pressure the militia and its supporters in Tehran and the results of the Yemen Humanitarian Response Conference 2022, which was organized by the United Nations in partnership with Sweden and Switzerland, and the disappointing results that came out.
They also discussed the joint visions of supporting the government to achieve economic stability and the expected positive impact of this on improving the humanitarian situation.
The Prime Minister expressed his great appreciation for the support of friends in Sweden and their great interest in the Yemeni issue, especially in light of the current global developments, and its participation in hosting the Humanitarian Response Conference, and before it the Stockholm consultations, pointing to the important role of Sweden within the international community and the European Union to bring peace, and put an end to the continuation of the Houthi militia’s stubborn rejection of peace as per the Iranian directives.
