Assa’di: Houthi militia makes the civilians human shields

Yemen’s Permanent Representative to the UN Abdullah Assa’di said” Houthi militia’s crimes against the civilians have gone so far, the militiamen have embarked on taken the population as hostages in entire cities and villages, making them as human shields, using schools as weapons depots, public buildings as detention centers, stationing snipers on the houses’ rooftops to bombard the civilians”.

Speaking at the International Security Council’s open session under the article of ” Protection of Civilians amid Armed Conflict” he added ” These militias have continued to besiege the cities, prevent the population from moving, accessing to water and food, this is clearly evidenced in the blockade the militiamen imposed on the district of al-Abdiah in Marib and strangling besiege the city of Taiz has been subjected to for more than seven years amid unjustified silence by the international community”.

Ambassador Assa’di cited a long list of Houthi militia’s violations and atrocities against the civilians including the ongoing aggressive military operations on Marib governorate, ballistic missiles attacks on the IDPs and excessive use of landmines.

He blamed the Iranian regime’s involvement in the Yemeni conflict, providing Houthi rebels with military support. ” This war would not have continued, thousands civilians would not have been killed, unless the Iranian and Hezbollah’s military support for the Houthi militiamen”, he said.
