Yemen, Qatar agree to restore diplomatic relations

DOHA – SABA
The Republic of Yemen and the State of Qatar have agreed to restore their diplomatic relations, after three years and a half of severance.

The decision was unveiled during a meeting between Yemen’s Foreign Minister Ahmed Awadh Bin Mubarak and Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani here today.

The two officials discussed promoting the relationship and developing it in various fields. Bin Mubarak handed over to his Qatari counterpart a letter from Yemen’s President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi addressed to the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim ibn Hamad Al Thani acknowledging Qatar’s developmental and humanitarian aid to Yemen. In the letter, Hadi also appreciated the Qatari support to Yemen to restore the state and end the coup of the Iran-backed Houthi militia.

Bin Mubarak expressed his delight at the achievements of al-Oula Summit 2021 which cemented the inter-GCC reconciliation, saying Yemen welcomed the outcomes of that meeting given the high status Qatar and all Gulf states occupy in the hearts of the Yemeni people.
